Tell us a bit about your career...

When I left school I thought accountancy sounded really interesting as a career choice, so I applied to local firms in North Wales (where I lived at the time) and I secured a position. On relocating to Yorkshire, I joined Shepherd Partnership, qualified (ACCA) in 1997, got my Practice Certificate for Audit in 2000, became partner in 2002, and finally a director in 2006.

What do you enjoy about your work?

 

Solid client relationships are an enjoyable part of what I do; being trusted advisors to local businesses and watching them succeed is very rewarding. Seeing new people come into and grow in their accounting careers is also great to see.

How about life away from the office?

 

As a keen runner, I have done every Great North Run since 2007. My other great passion is skiing. Family life is an important part of my life and I spend as much time as possible with my wife and grown up children.

Tell us about a personal achievement…

 

I trekked to Everest base camp in 2019. It was incredible but very challenging – a once in a lifetime experience and achievement.
